#29 Procrastination: Why We do it and How to Stop (9 Simple Steps) w/ Leannah Lumauig

Today one of my clients said that they felt personally attacked by me.

It ended up being a joke. And it was because I posted something on Instagram about procrastination that triggered her. She shared that procrastination is something she struggles with often and after seeing it on my IG stories, it made her reflect on how much this behavior shows up in her daily life.

I assured her the reason why I shared this content is not only because it's a topic my clients have a hard time with, but it’s something that I’ve struggled with my whole life - even today.

This email you’re reading? Yup, I procrastinated on writing it. It doesn’t mean that I didn’t want to write it. It just means that I’m human and I do human things, like procrastinate. And I’m guessing you do it too sometimes.

There’s a study that shows, “80%–95% of college students engage in procrastination to some degree”.

See? It’s human nature.

In my latest podcast episode, Procrastination: Why We do it and How to Stop (9 Simple Steps), I share my personal experiences with procrastination and the research I’ve done on the topic. You’ll learn what procrastination really is, why we do it and receive helpful tips on how to stop procrastinating.

I also share a theory about procrastination and how people from marginalized groups (like women of color) might be more prone to this behavior.

There’s a misconception that procrastination is due to laziness and poor time management. And while that can sometimes be the case, procrastination is more likely to do with how we regulate our emotions.
