#72 Your Pain is Your Purpose w/ Mark Reid
Can you think of a time in your life when things got really hard? To the point where getting out of bed seemed like an impossible task? Or leaving the house and having to face the world felt like a huge mission?
I’ve been in dark places like these too. My therapist shared with me recently that I experienced PTSD from multiple events in my life. It blows my mind that I’d been carrying the weight of all of these experiences around for decades.
When I think back to the younger version of myself, I can’t help but feel compassion and gratitude for the young Leannah. Because she went through episodes of trauma without having the knowledge, skills or tools to heal from them fully. She had to get resourceful and figure out a way through some big, confusing storms in life.
Young Leannah created courage in times of extreme stress. She is an alchemist. She shaped me, strengthened me and helped me find my purpose through adversity. I’m grateful for her.
In my interview with Mark Reid, trauma coach & healer, he shares his personal story of healing through a wide range of traumatic experiences: a rare form of skin cancer, lymes disease, drug/alcholol/sex addiction, a failed engagement, divorce and losing a child.
He believes his experiences are gifts from the universe that have helped him awaken and commit to doing daily inner work to transform his life and the lives of his clients.
In his career, Mark has been a school teacher, sports coach, DJ, personal trainer, business coach, practitioner of human design, tantra, breathwork, meditation and energy healer.
Experiencing hardship isn’t something to wish for. But I can see how going through it helped shape the person I am today. It also makes me a better person, friend and coach. I have more access to empathy and a deeper understanding of people’s life’s journeys - pain and joy.
If you’re going through a tough time now, I’d like to remind you that everything is temporary. You might not be able to see the sun above the clouds, but it’s up there. And it’ll shine when you’re ready.
